A165The Framework for Rice Policy Reform, which is being promoted by the government, is striving for an adjustment in the amount of rice that is produced while taking into consideration the conservation of irrigated rice fields. The aim is to switch to other crops to meet demand. The government offers grants when regional councils to which farmers belong create a Regional Irrigated Rice Field Agricultural Vision, according to which the farmers produce barley, wheat, soybeans and feed grain for livestock. Plans are in place for the food self-sufficiency rate to rise by increasing the production of crops to match demand.
