Q134 What other business organizations are there besides Nippon Keidanren?

A134

There are said to be three major finance and business organizations in Japan. The other two are Keizai-doyukai (the Japan Association of Corporate Executives) and Nissho (the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry). Keizai-doyukai was established in 1946 to provide workshops for managers. It collects and publishes proposals on various themes and, as an association in which members participate as individuals, rather than as representatives of their respective companies, the voice of its representative director (until April 2007), Kakutaro Kitashiro (since April2007, chief advisor of IBM) was much bolder than that of the chairman of Nippon Keidanren. Nissho's predecessor, the Chamber of Commerce, was founded in 1878 and was renamed in 1922.

There are 520 Chambers of Commerce and Industry nationwide and they promote policy development, the advancement of small and medium-sized companies, and local development.

In September 2006, Japan's largest social networking service, mixi Inc., listed its shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's Market of the high-growth and emerging stocks (Mothers).
