Q120    Has the 2007 Problem had an impact on com-pany employment activities?

A120 Companies are frantically quickly trying to grab quality candidates. In 2006, one year before most of the baby-boomers were due to start retiring, the front line of the employment market had already become a seller's market. It became common for students who had received a conditional offer or naitei, from one company to be poached by another. In order to compete, many companies now have to issue numerous conditional offers. The Revised Law Concerning Stabilization of Employment of Older Persons, which makes it obligatory to continue to employ people over the age of 60, was introduced in April 2006, and a growing number of companies intend to keep on employees for longer and/or to reemploy retired individuals. It is hoped that, if enough baby-boomers remain employed, skills will be transferred relatively smoothly.
